Our Basildon Our Memories ...
During WW2 the East End of London was badly bombed, resulting in over 20,000 people losing their homes. In 1946 the "New Town Act" was passed & the search was on for suitable locations for building new homes. One location selected was Basildon, later to be known as "Basildon New Town". To celebrate 60 years of Basildon New Town & to store memories of how people came to live in Basildon, "NHS S.W.Essex" have funded a project entitled "Our Basildon Our Memories", where a session of Basildon people, led by Historian Tony, relate their first memories of how & when they came to live in the new Town.....
On the 23rd.October 2009 BHR1287's Jacquie James & Steve King were invited along to "Afflets Court" Basildon to record & listen to the days sessions. The People who were there relating their stories were delightful company & a very entertaining afternoon was enjoyed by both Jacqui & Steve.....
"BIG THANKS to Lisa for the invite & NHS S.W.Essex for funding the project....
